THREE-DIMENSIONAL

By GUSTAV WAGNER
Published: Sunday, 10 March 2013

Mariscotti's artistic style is inherently three-dimensional. The artist treats the canvas as a three-dimensional space, therefore conferring that quality to every element he creates within that space. These elements seem to move around within the canvas and position themselves in different planes of that space. When seen from above, this layered structure creates the illusion of depth. Moreover, the artist chooses his colors wisely to make the figures pop. The abstract nature of the work makes the exact dimensions of those figures of no crucial consequence. For that reason it comes as no surprise to see the work on canvas acquire 'physical' depth in the form of a sculpture. Consequently, we can speak of Model One as a mere example of the next logical step for the development of Mariscotti's characteristic style.
