Combine #1 (Black Beauty series), 2012

"Combine #1" is a very interesting take on Mariscotti's latest work. This piece brings together two seemingly different views and puts them in perspective. Both views exhibit geometrical and non-geometrical elements. On the one hand, the work on the left displays a grid that partitions the work into 9 sections; however, the interiors of those sections include irregular rings of color. On the other hand, the work on the right is composed of color rectangles arranged accordingly in order to achieve proper equilibrium; however, these shapes seem to be connected by an irregular, apparently 'eroded' thick gray line. We can thus conclude that in spite of every effort to structure and 'control' the work, unexpected emotional forces seem to find their way through and add a little chaos into the mix.
