In the early 1900s the advent of abstraction came as a disruptor of more standard ways of execution in the arts. Traditionally in order to carry out a painting you would first need to produce the outlines of the figures with ink or charcoal to be filled in with paint. Some artists challenged this convention and decided to forgo the first step altogether. Paint comes now to the foreground and becomes the drawing medium. In such a way Mariscotti executes his works. As can be seen above, Untitled 437 is a clear example of said technique. Mariscotti contours his "objects" with paint and later develops them to achieve the sought effect.
